NATIONAL POLICE WEEK 2025: HONORING AND REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
[Moberly, MO] – Again this year, communities across the United States will honor and remember those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers they left behind.
This year, the names of 148 officers killed in the line of duty in 2024 were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. Since 1786, over 23,000 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ensures that those who gave their lives to protect and serve their communities are remembered for generations to come, while providing a place where survivors can spend a quiet moment paying tribute to their loved ones.
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund held ceremonies, including the 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial.
Moberly residents can view local fallen officers on the City’s website.
More information about National Police Week, is available at the National Law Enforcement Memorial website.
